A group of missionaries from First Christian Church, Washington, NC stayed in the mission station at the Moss Point Christian Church, Louisiana from May 13-21, 2006.  The purpose of the trip was to shingle houses that had been damaged from Hurricane Katrina and to make repairs on the Gulf Port Christian Church.

The team worked hard and shingled three houses belonging to Cleo Simmons, Vennessa Thompson, and Beverly White. Several in the group worked to clean and paint the Gulf Port Christian Church.  Beginning June 1, 2006, the Gulf Port Christian Church was to begin serving as a mission station where teams could stay while they volunteered their services.

The Gulf Port Christian Church was a small church and membership had declined to less than 25 members and no young people.  There was even talk about not repairing the church at all and having members go to other churches. The team decided to purchase a crib and rocking chair as encouragement for the congregation. After praying for the growth of the church, Nancy Furlough wrote a note and left it in the offering plate explaining how the team had hope for the future for this church. This activity was truly the most meaningful part of the mission trip.

Thanks to the Christian Women’s Fellowship of First Christian Church, the team was able to not only purchase the crib and rocking chair, but they also donated a ladder horse, an air compressor, 2 wheelbarrows, and various supplies to be used by future mission teams. The CWF organized the Cookie Express in December and donated the proceeds to the mission team.  This donation was quite valuable in being able to help the people misplaced by Hurricane Katrina.
