Benefits of Chia Seeds

Chia seeds a widespread type of seed found in Africa, as well as other continents. It comes from the Salvia Hispanica plant, which is in the same family as the mint!

They are incredibly nutritious and provide hefty amounts of protein, magnesium, vitamins B1 and B2, as well as many other nutrients and vitamins. Chia seeds are high in Omega 3 fats, too. Any food that is high in fats (of any kind) is prone to decompose and spoil very quickly. However, chia seeds have a built-in defense system to combat this. They are chock full of antioxidants, which prevent the fats from spoiling and form somewhat of a ‘protective layer’ around the shell of the chia seed.

Another benefit of chia seeds is that almost every single gram of carbs in the seeds is made up of fiber carbs. You can see that one ounce of the chia seeds has up to 12 grams of carbohydrates; at the same time, however, up to 11 grams of these sugars are made up of fiber. Therefore, you are only ingesting up to one (or maybe two) grams of actual carbohydrates from the seeds.

Chia seeds are also known to contain a well-balanced amount of protein. When you compare them to other protein-rich fiber or plant-based foods, you can see that they are made up of about 14% of protein, when you look at it from the broad scope of things. They also have a bunch of amino acids, where are essential for the body to be able to use the protein.

When a form of the protein is too complicated for the human body, the body tends to ‘get rid of’ these proteins, without ever absorbing it or the nutrients that come from the proteins. Amino acid-friendly proteins are among the easiest forms of protein to ingest, though, which is one of the reasons why chia seeds are so nutritiously good for you.

You can also quickly lose weight thanks to all of the protein and healthy fats as well as the acids and vitamins in chia seeds. This is one of the factors that make it such a popular superfood. You should always be eating chia seeds when you are trying to lose weight, and even more so when you are not. All of the aforementioned healthy fats, proteins, carbohydrates, vitamins, acids, and other nutritional values help to keep our body running healthily.

They also aid to help lose weight in the sense that, because they are so nutrition dense, they are incredibly filling. Eating fewer amounts of protein-packed food aids in losing weight because you are tempted to eat less. After a certain period eating superfoods on a daily basis, you get used to eating less and less, and therefore subconsciously consume fewer calories.
